    • vegetables
    • lean sources of protein such as lean beef, skinless poultry and fish; dry beans, peas and other legumes
    • low-fat and fat-free dairy foods

The relationship between nutrition and oral health has been proven by research. Stay healthy by eating right.  If you have questions about your dental health, contact Prime Dental Associates at (815) 385-4140 or email our office.

Why is Smoking Bad For Your Teeth?

Smoking has a variety of negative effects on your dental health.  Here are just a few you should look out for:

  1. Halitosis (bad breath)
  2. Stained teeth
  3. Discolored teeth
  4. Build up of calculus (tartar) on the teeth
  5. Risk of inflammation of the gums, tongue and oral tissues
  6. Risk of gum disease
  7. Risk of developing oral cancer

If you smoke, we encourage you to do the following:

  1. Visit the dentist for an exam and cleaning every 4 months so we can remove plaque, stain and tartar that lead to gum disease and bone loss.  We will also do an examination of your mouth to identify any changes we see in your mouth.
  2. Stop smoking to decrease the effects of smoking on your teeth and oral tissues.

Contact Prime Dental Associates, your Johnsburg dental office, to schedule your cleaning and examination.
